I’m pleased to say that plans for the Montgomery Tea Party have been finalized. Speakers at the event will include:
Kevin Elkins, News Radio 1440 talk host
Greg Budell, WACV 1170 talk host
Tim James
John Rice
John Killian, Birmingham pastor
State Senator Harri Anne Smith
State Representative Greg Canfield
State Representative Barry Mask
Ashley Johnston will read an excerpt from a Patrick Henry speech
Also attending and speaking if time permits will be State Senator Scott Beason and State Representatives Robert Bentley and Cam Ward.
But that’s not all. We plan on having a 5-minute segment where anybody attending the Tea Party can come to the microphone and speak for 30-seconds each. We will have Adam Brooks from Christ Community Church singing “America the Beautiful,” and Birmingham-based Alabama Pipes and Drums will kick us off with “Scotland the Brave.”
We have an offer from Boomer T’s to offer free barbecue pork sandwiches to the first fifty people who ask for them, and are in the process of checking with the State House to make sure this will be okay. It’s kind of symbolic, you know? Pork belongs in a sandwich, not in a budget.
Petitions will be on hand for people to sign, and I am trying to arrange for a limited number of copies of the “Pig Book”, which is written yearly by Citizens Against Government Waste.
This is going to be a noteworthy event, and should draw media attention from around the area. And as part of the national movement, we will be part of a true grass-roots movement aimed at taking our government back. Democrat and Republican elected officials have together contributed to our troubles with their willingness to overspend our money, so it’s up to ordinary people like us to stand up and say “NO!”
I invite everyone to come out and join us on April 15th at High Noon in front of the Alabama State House. Bring yourselves, your friends, signs (if you want one), a water bottle (it will probably be hot), and a bell or noisemaker to help us “ring a bell against the bailout.”
Repeal the pork; Cut taxes!

Reverend John Killian is a great public speaker for liberty and freedom, however he’s from Maytown, AL which is NEAR Birmingham if I'm not mistaken.
Don,
Matt just beat me to the punch on inviting Killian. By the time I got to it, he was already committed in Montgomery. :)
Stephen, Matt’s pretty swift, but maybe he should have invited you to be a speaker too. Maybe he should have bribed you with a promise of some great Cuban cigars. :-)
Why, if there is limited time, is a young boy reading from Patrick Henry? There is not ample time for the adults to make comments. Seems like it is totally inappropriate to not give time to some of the interesting attendees and have someone read from Patrick Henry. Just our opinion.
And we respect your opinion. However, we think history is something that should be remembered, not forgotten. A historical reading of the exerpted portions of this speech is on topic for our Tea Party. In addition, should we assume that young people have nothing to say and instead let only adults talk? Should we treat young people as our Federal Government is treating us... that is, tell them to sit down and shut up while we figure out what will be done?
I think not. Part of our objections to the current financial plans coming out of Washington DC is that they will burden our children with mountains of debt. How can we, in good conscience, exclude them from taking part in this grass-roots movement?
I would also like to say that I have received several emails nitpicking about this or that detail of our program. To which I will reply that we have put together a good Tea Party that will accomplish what we set out to do: Gather a large number of people together to tell the politicians in Washington DC that this country deserves and NEEDS a fiscally responsible federal government. I am proud of what we have accomplished so far, and for the first time I am actually looking forward to Tax Day!
I agree it's a good idea for the Children to be involved. This is the time to teach children love for America, the principles of Democracy and patriotism like we have not seen in our elected officials. The children of today will be victims of the bad decisions of this current government so they should be included in this protest.
I'll be there.
Glad to see we're all finally doing something!
I'm not ready to go socialist.
America wasn't built on it nor has it ever worked anywhere else, in anytime in history.
See you there!
