What am I talking about? Well, the Democrats are gearing up to abandon a “bipartisan” bill and instead pursue a purely partisan bill containing all of the lovely “use of force” items that are so dear to a liberal’s heart. And who’s fault is it that this has come to pass, and that PresBo’s promise of a “bipartisan” bill is dying? It’s the Republicans’ fault!
President Barack Obama now realizes he probably will have to pass health reform with Democratic votes alone, White House officials say.
The admission is a monumental shift in Washington’s top fight of the year, with the energy now shifting to differences among Democrats, rather than efforts to lure a critical mass of Republicans.
The aides call it more a prediction than a strategy shift, and blame the GOP.
"We were forced into this by Republicans," one official said.
Really? I recall during early talks, when free-market alternatives to a government power grab were brought up, the President dismissing the suggestions by saying “I won!” So if PresBo and Congressional Dems were ignoring any input from Republicans that was contrary to what they wanted, how do they think that the bills they produced were “bipartisan?”
Besides that, the Democrats have the majorities in both houses, and can basically do anything they want without even a single Republican vote. So I’m at a loss to explain how the Democrats think somehow that this whole mess WASN’T their fault.
"Apparently having a filibuster-proof majority, a 40-seat advantage in the House, and a president who was once really popular isn’t enough," Spain said in a statement. "Maybe if people actually liked the bill, Democrats’ wouldn’t have such a tough time whipping up bipartisan votes, much less vulnerable Democrats within their own party."
And while the Democrats are frantically looking for someone besides themselves to shoulder the blame for the mess they caused, the ratings for the Democrat party are plummeting.
The percentage of Americans who hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party has slipped below 50 percent for the first time since President Barack Obama took office, according to a new Pew Research Center poll released Wednesday.
Only 49 percent of Americans now hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party, down from 62 percent in the same poll shortly after Obama assumed office. Democratic favorable ratings hovered around 60 percent as recently as April, when 59 percent of those polled held a favorable view.
If the Dems manage to pass a health care bill, especially one containing a “public option,” I believe they will receive a massive defeat during the 2010 elections… the American people do NOT want this kind of health care “reform!” And if they fail to pass a bill at all, despite holding majorities in both Houses as well as the Presidency, then a similar fate will await them. Who will trust a party who abuses its power and fails at passing major initiatives?
Either way, the Democrats are in for a large dose of reality next year… and it’s all THEIR OWN fault, no matter who they finally decide to blame. If they hadn’t read last year’s election results as a license to push a radical-liberal agenda down our throats and ignore any and all contrary voices, they wouldn’t be in this mess right now. They can’t win for losing… and given what they’ve been trying to do recently, that’s a good thing.
