Nancy Pelosi, for example, fired the first shot, invoking Kennedy’s name in connection with the health care bill.
"Ted Kennedy’s dream of quality health care for all Americans will be made real this year because of his leadership and his inspiration," Pelosi said in a statement.
That’s a pretty mild statement, but it was just the opening salvo. Next, Rep Byrd declared we should name the legislation after Kennedy. This is unequivocally using the death of a person for political advantage, and it is disgusting.
“In his honor and as a tribute to his commitment to his ideals, let us stop the shouting and name calling and have a civilized debate on health care reform which I hope, when legislation has been signed into law, will bear his name for his commitment to insuring the health of every American.”
Do these people have NO shame? The man died yesterday, for heaven’s sake! Can’t they show at least a LITTLE respect by NOT using his death to further their own political agenda? No, of course they can’t. That would require class, and it is clear the Senator Byrd and Nancy Pelosi have none of that.
I will STILL not discuss Kennedy’s life, death, or politics… I still believe that the recently deceased deserve at least a modicum of respect. Alas, this is an attitude that the Democrats, in their rabid eagerness to force their ideological agenda on everybody, do not share. Their motto USED to be “Never let a crisis go to waste.” We can paraphrase that here: “Never let the death of a colleague go to waste.”
This is disgusting, and it is my hope that the American public are paying attention.
UPDATE: Democrats are planning to use Kenedy's death to push the health care bill, but it won't have the effect of winning support from the opposition.

Actually, I'm in favor of naming a bridge after Senator Kennedy. I won't tell you the name of the Parkway that I'd like to have lead up to it...but it starts with "K".
