Polls: Most Expect Tax Hike & Increased Spending

According to a new Rasmussen poll, the number of people who expect a tax cut has fallen to a record low. At the same time, those expecting a tax increase have also risen.

Just six percent (6%) of voters nationwide now expect their own taxes to go down during the Obama years. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 42% expect their taxes to go up while 40% expect little change. Another 12% are not sure.

This is the first time since last November’s election that the number expecting a tax cut has fallen to single digits.

And at the same time that so many are realizing that tax reductions just aren’t in the cards, a large majority ALSO thinks that PresBo will increase spending.

Seventy percent (70%) of voters expect government spending to increase during the Obama years. That’s up from 54% when he was elected and 63% since Inauguration Day.

Only six percent (6%) expect the Obama administration to reduce government spending.

In addition to all this, the vast majority believe that PresBo’s policies have increased the deficit, and that tax increases on the middle class are coming.

Seventy-one percent (71%) say the president’s policies have increased the size of the federal deficit.

Seventy-six percent (76%) believe it is at least somewhat likely that taxes will have to be raised on the middle class to cover the cost of health care reform, even though 54% think middle class tax cuts are more important than new spending on health care.

These numbers are a clear indication that the liberal snow-job on America is failing. They may or may not be able to convince enough Congressmen to vote in favor of the administration's flawed proposals, but they haven’t convinced US. And 2010 is the moment when “We The People” get to speak loudly and clearly.

The only problem with this scenario is that we don’t have THAT much of a choice in 2010. We either vote for the Democrats, who have shown they want to bankrupt the nation and seize everything in sight, or we go with the Republicans… who we STILL can’t trust to behave in a fiscally responsible manner.

People, if you have any independent or third-party candidates running in your district next year, I strongly recommend you consider them very carefully.

  1. President Obama has repeatedly said that a health care overhaul "will be paid for" and that he won't sign a bill that isn't deficit-neutral. But neither the House bill nor the Senate HELP Committee bill meets that criteria. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and Joint Committee on Taxation, the House bill as introduced would add a net $239 billion over 10 years to the deficit, while the HELP Committee bill racks up more, $597 billion over 10 years.

Obama has also said he has "identified two-thirds of those costs to be paid for by tax dollars that are already being spent right now." But "identified" is the operative word. These savings are estimates and whether around $650 billion (about two-thirds of the cost of health care over 10 years) can be saved remains to be seen. Most of the money would come from Medicare, but cuts in payments to insurers and practitioners aren't popular measures that move easily through Congress.
