Liberals Rejecting ObamaCare

The first group to oppose ObamaCare were libertarians, followed eventually by Republicans. Then the independents got on board. Now we're seeing prominent LIBERALS and Democrats saying that the Senate bill should be scrapped. I'll cover the specific people in a moment, but first I want to provide two quotes that show what's going on, here.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1209/30737.html

“On the issue of health care, you are losing the left, you are losing the right, you are losing the center. That looks to me like a political disaster.” -- Peggy Noonan, columnist and former Reagan speechwriter

“It's now an effort by a political party to protect itself. They're in a political panic, quite frankly. Nobody really cares what it is anymore as long as they can get it passed, signed, and claim a political victory. That is going to do a lot of damage to long-term health care reform efforts. And I would urge them not to do this. They're walking off a cliff.” -- Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)

And the prominent liberals who now think the Senate ObamaCare plan should be defeated? That list would include Arianna Huffington, Keith Olbermann, Howard Dean, Ed Schultz, and Markos Moulitsas.

“[A]s it stands, this bill would do more harm than good to the future of America.” -- Howard Dean, former governor of Vermont

"The only people who like this current bill right now, Mr. President, is the insurance industry — they get a bunch of new customers.” -- Ed Schultz, liberal talk radio host

"Time to kill this monstrosity coming out of the Senate." -- Markos Moulitsas, founder of Daily Kos

“They must now not make the defeat worse by passing a hollow shell of a bill just for the sake of a big-stage signing ceremony.” -- Keith Olbermann, MSNBC

“There is no cost containment here. Reconciliation [a Democrats-only strategy requiring only 51 votes] is a very pragmatic alternative.” -- Arianna Huffington, founder of Huffington Post

High-profile and influential liberals are abandoning the bill, and apparently recognize that the only reason the Democrats are pushing so hard to pass SOMETHING is for their own political benefit. And passing bills for that reason guarantees that we will be harmed by the bill they pass.

I do understand that the liberals mentioned above want the bill defeated for different reasons than I do, and that we disagree on what should be included in health care reform. Despite that, they have reached the correct conclusion and I applaud them for that.

Now, are Congress and the White House listening? Do they even CARE what any of us think? If so, they'll abandon the bill.

  1. If those pushing for passage of this bill were subjected to a psychiatric examination we might learn that they have a death wish, politically speaking.
