SB153 has already passed the Senate, and would allow Alabama residents to make their own beer and wine for their own consumption. Should Alabama pass this law?

While I vote "yes"....I'm wondering how dry counties will attack this idea.
ReplyDeleteOn an economic front...once you sit down and figure out brewing (because it is a science)...and you involve your neighbors...I suspect that one out of every twenty guys over thirty will be brewing their brew.
Here's the last observation on this...once you get the hang of wine and beer science...what is going to prevent you from building a still and doing hard grain alcohol? My guess is that we will have a problem here within ten years....with lots of guys going past the first step.
Thanks for voting and comenting, Ripley.
ReplyDeleteThe bill deals with dry counties, saying that home brewing is NOT authorized in counties that have not legalized alcohol sales. So if you're in a dry county, no can do.
As to distillation, I understand your concern, but none of the other states who have legalized home brew have that problem. So illegal distillation probably won't jump to much more of a problem than it is now.
If there were a bill to allow people to distill whiskey for their personal consumption I’d vote yes on that one too because it’s a matter of individual liberty. It shouldn’t be illegal to do anything as long as it doesn’t harm someone else. Distilling whiskey and then selling it would be harmful to commercial distilleries so that shouldn’t be allowed. If they want to do that they should get a license and start their own business just like the commercial distilleries already have to do.
