Just the obvious here...you have to give them two senators, and by their population, they get at least three representatives. That means three states will have to cough up folks.
ReplyDeleteThis 51-state deal then invites some views by Guam folks and several islands in the Pacific...why stop at 51 then? So within five years...I'd predict two more states joining, and again...more senators created out of thin air, but five or six representatives taken from the absolutely limited batch currently.
The curious thing....because I've worked with Puerto Ricans...is that only one third of the Isle wants statehood. The rest are split between staying like they are or becoming a country. It's not a topic they really discuss frequently...and if jobs were part of the deal...they'd all jump on this. But there just aren't going to be any more jobs created in PR...out of thin air.
