So far in his term of office, everything he's done is "necessary" for one reason or another. Every tax or usurpation of power "must be done" to stave off this disaster or that calamity.
“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is argument of tyrants. It is the creed of slaves.” - William Pitt, 1783
What is the nature of government?
“Government is not reason; it is not eloquence. It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.” - George Washington
And what is the nature of GOOD government?
"A wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government…” - Thomas Jefferson, first Inaugral address
And what of Obama's habit of borrowing money to spend today what won't actually be earned for a few generations?
“The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.” - Thomas Jefferson, 1816
Liberals like to say that the Constitution is a "living document," and most commonly reference it only in the breach. In other words, they do their best to get around the Constitution's limits on GOVERNMENT whenever they can.
“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.” - Alexander Hamilton, 1794
So these intelligent, reasonable men have shown us the way. We know the standards and values we must uphold. Dare we defend our rights?

The founding fathers got a dose of Roman and Greek history...with philosophy and logic thrown in. Instead of learning to think at eight different levels like we are today...they learned to think at precisely one level and to maximize that level as much as you could. If you crafted a letter in 1788...you spent an afternoon on horseback tending to your farm or business or operation...and thought about the words you'd use for this one page letter. Today....we rush into judgement and write something with little to no thinking.
ReplyDeleteThey were different men in those days...with a grasp of Socrates and Plato. Go look for any kid in a school today. You get nothing from Plato until you attend college and even then...it's a 80 percent chance that you won't hear a word about Plato.
