Republican State Representative Robert Bentley holds a 20-point lead over Democratic nominee Ron Sparks in the first Rasmussen Reports survey since Bentley's primary runoff win in Alabama’s gubernatorial contest.
The latest statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Bentley receiving 55% support, while Sparks picks up 35% of the vote. Just three percent (3%) would prefer another candidate in the race, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.
So, at this moment in time it looks like Bentley will be our Governor for the next four years. That may change as time progresses, of course, but right now it looks pretty solid.
It will take something special for Sparks to overcome a 20-point deficit, especially when the election is only a little over three months away.
For the record, I do not agree with all of what Dr. Bentley says in his campaign, but he's better than Sparks or Byrne would be. So, at this point I'll be voting for Bentley in November, and hoping that THIS TIME we might actually get somebody worthwhile in office. I'm not holding my breath, but I AM hoping.

I would make this observation. First, Bentley is one of the most unknown political figures to run for Governor in thirty years...maybe even sixty years. This is kind of a positive because you can't find nothing much negative about the guy to say.
ReplyDeleteSecond, which is very important...is this wave of 'vote against Democrats'. I don't care who you are in the state or what office you are running for...you are going to carry an extra ten percent of votes if you are Republican...only because of this national disenchantment.
I’m not yet convinced that Dr. Bentley isn’t a deceptive candidate that I can’t trust and vote for in good conscience even while being aware that he might be a better choice than Ron Sparks.
ReplyDeleteI think the way the “good kindly doctor” disposed of some of the members of his campaign organization who had helped him come from nowhere to be in the run-off election and prostituted himself in order to obtain the endorsement of Mike Huckabee is an indication of his lack of core Christian principals which he claims to hold.
That’s not the only reason I can’t trust Bentley. I’ve had personal dealings with him that also concern me.
