Breaking: Hawaii Can't Find Obama's Birth Certificate!

Okay, let me start by saying that I'm not a birther. I talk about the issue sometimes, but I've never been one to advocate the position that Obama isn't a natural-born citizen. So imagine my surprise this morning to read a news article telling me that Hawaii can't find Obama's long-form birth certificate!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1348916/Hawaii-governor-says-Obamas-birth-record-exists-produce-it.html

Pressure was mounting on Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie today amid increasing confusion over whether President Obama was born there.

Abercrombie said on Tuesday that an investigation had unearthed papers proving Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961.

He told Honolulu's Star-Advertiser: 'It actually exists in the archives, written down,' he said.

But it became apparent that what had been discovered was an unspecified listing or notation of Obama's birth that someone had made in the state archives and not a birth certificate.

And in the same interview Abercrombie suggested that a long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Barack Obama may not exist within the vital records maintained by the Hawaii Department of Health.

He said efforts were still being made to track down definitive vital records that would prove Obama was born in Hawaii.

Wow, huh?

When Abercrombie took office in December, he said that he viewed it as a personal mission to prove to doubters that Obama was a natural-born citizen. He made it clear that he was friends with Obama and that this was personal. So much for objective facts, I guess, eh?

Anyway, NOW he says that he cannot find a birth certificate for Obama, and that it in fact might not actually exist.

Wow.

The birthers have been claiming since the beginning that Obama can't produce a long form birth certificate and, if this report is accurate, it looks like they may have been right all along. If a friend and staunch supporter can't find the certificate, then nobody can.

We may have a Constitutional crisis brewing for real, here.

Wow!

  2. Whow, if it were true. IF it were true. Abercrombie never said it.

The words "And in the same interview Abercrombie suggested that a long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Barack Obama may not exist within the vital records maintained by the Hawaii Department of Health" come only from the BIRTHER site, WND.

Abercrombie never said anything like it. Nothing like "it's not there" or "we can't find it." He actually said that there was a document in the file and that it showed that Obama was born in Hawaii. WND is speculating on the basis of him not saying that it was a birth certificate that there was no birth certificate.

But that is mere speculation based on the INDIRECT quote (no quotation marks) of the original Hawaii newspaper, and Aberfrcrombie spoke quickly at the end of an interview.

The KEY fact (that WND does not mention but has itself reported several times) is that we know that there is an original birth certificate in the files because the two Republican officials who checked the records in the first of two confirmations said specifically that there is an ORIGINAL birth certificate in the file. Their second confirmation stated that the documents in the file VERIFY that Obama was born in Hawaii.

So, there is an original birth certificate in the file (the Republican officials would hardly be lying about a thing like that, especially with a Conservative Republican attorney general who could prosecute them). And, Abercrombie never said that there was not an original birth certificate in the file or that it could not be found.

Then why not send it out, you may ask? Because Hawaii has not sent out copies of the original since 2001 when the new short-form birth certificate became the official birth certificate, and because starting to send out the original again may require a change in Hawaii law. But there is an original in the file and Abercrombie never said that it could not be found.

  4. It's best to drop this topic. I think the worst that you could find...if the certificate were ever dragged out...is that Stanley the mother...dumped her husband quiet quickly, and probably never noted him as the father (probably leaving it blank). This is a waste of time to drag up the topic...if you ask my humble opinion.

  5. Ripley, I don't know the truth, here... nobody does. The birthers have faith that he isn't legal, just like everybody else has faith that he is. I normally don't cover birther stories, but some milestones along the way are noteworthy. Like when Obama's WIFE called Kenya Obama's "homeland". Or when the Governor of Hawaii, who has staunchly defended Obama in this matter, admits he can't find the long form birth dertificate.

However the issue resolves in the long run, some portions of it are news worthy. I'll cover those as they arise... I don't hit this issue often, but I will for especially interesting aspects of it.

  6. With the renewed interest if folks proving citizenship, etc, and the fallibility of the state, might want to use this as a reminder to get and stash away multiple certified copies of birth certificates, deeds, tax receipts, marriage licenses, etc including one for the bug out bag and maybe that mason jar in the back yard.
