"I've been here for a long time, and I've watched some of the people elected to the Senate. And I thought... yeah, I could do that."
Elyas announced his candidacy this morning in a press conference held on the steps of the capitol building. When asked which party he was running with, he grinned.
"That's the problem with the folks already here, you know? All they care about is the party. Either it's their political party, or whichever shin-dig is being thrown by lobbyists this week. So I won't run under ANY party."
When asked whether he could really handle the job, Elyas responded energetically.
"I've seen so many bozos walking these halls... if THEY can do it, then I certainly can."
Elyas has already started his fundraising campaign, collecting $15.73 from his cousin, and an in-kind contribution of half a dozen cinnamon rolls from his mother. Stay tuned for further developments...
