Pelosi: "Elections Shouldn't Matter"

Remember right after Obama won the election and Democrats took control of both houses of Congress? We heard Obama dismiss Republican input with the phrase: "I won!" Democrats in DC said, time and time again, "elections have consequences" in order to counsel Republicans to go along with their extreme, ideological agenda. Now that the intervening 2010 elections have changed things a bit, Pelosi is singing a slightly different tune.

To my Republican friends: take back your party. So that it doesn’t matter so much who wins the election, because we have shared values about the education of our children, the growth of our economy, how we defend our country, our security and civil liberties, how we respect our seniors. Because there are so many things at risk right now -- perhaps in another question I'll go into them, if you want. But the fact is that elections shouldn't matter as much as they do...But when it comes to a place where there doesn't seem to be shared values then that can be problematic for the country, as I think you can see right now.

Basically, what Pelosi is saying is that she wants a world where we don't matter. Where it doesn't matter who we vote for, because our "choice" is illusory and the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda will be advanced no matter who is elected.

Pelosi wants Republicans to be like Democrats... which, given the mentatlities of many in the GOP, isn't that much of a stretch.

Face it... the only thing that gives us any hope at all is that our vote DOES matter, and individuals who are NOT beholden to a party can run for office and govern responsibly instead of governing to enact an ideological agenda.

So, Pelosi is laying it on the line. If you want to live in her world of bland sameness and ideological conformity, if you want to relinquish any say you might have in the political direction of our country, then vote for Pelosi and her ilk in the upcoming elections.

I'm not painting Republicans as saints or saviors... they are hardly that. Many of them are more likely to share Pelosi's opinions than not, after all. But they seem, for the moment, marginally better than the folks we have in charge. Of course, if Romney wins the GOP nomination, I'll be counseling you to not cast a vote for President at ALL.

Time will tell...
