Shocker: Obama Announces Re-election Bid

When deciding what is and isn't news, the old saw goes, "dog bites man" isn't news because it happens so often that we expect it to happen again. "Man bites dog," on the other hand...

I think this falls into the "dog bites man" category... not really news. I mean, really, who amongst us expected Obama NOT to run for re-election? We all knew he would, so why is every major news outlet carrying this story? Some outlets are even carrying MULTIPLE stories on this piece of "news."

Look, this is not news. Everybody knew he would do it, he was expected to do it, and now he's done it. Mention it once on page C7, below the fold, and be done with it.

Now, if Obama had announced he was NOT running for re-election, THAT would be news! But this? It's just more hero-worship on the part of the mainstream media.

In my opinion, that's an awful lot of coverage for an event that surprises nobody.
