Obama's "Successes" Are Puzzling

Many Obama critics would claim that Obama has had no successes, and in some ways they'd be right. Legislatively speaking, his "successes," such as ObamaCare and the stimulus package, are hugely unpopular with voters. In the latest poll on this subject, 58% of respondents want to repeal ObamaCare, so that can hardly be counted as a resounding success.

So, when looking for a "success," we have to look at something that a clear majority supports him for. The first such event I can find is the killing of bin Laden. After bin Laden was killed, Obama enjoyed a brief jump in his popularity, and Democrats boasted that Obama had done what Bush never could. One of his advisers, when recently asked if Obama was really capable of handling the job, even told the interviewer to "ask bin Laden."

That's one. The next is the assassination of Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born cleric with ties to terrorists. I'll include this one as a success under my previous definition, even though there are Constitutional problems with the killing. Our Constitution says no American citizen can be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process. Although there was no due process that I'm aware of, the killing was hugely popular.

The third success I can think of is the recent death of Libyan leader Qaddafi. Yes, few Americans approved of his starting a war in Libya, and also true that a few months ago Obama claimed that we were out of it entirely and that what remained was a NATO operation. Regardless, Obama and Democrats are claiming credit for the death of the Big Q, and nobody seems to really miss him.

Those are the three things that Obama takes credit for that are hugely popular, so those are his successes.

Really. President Obama's biggest successes so far in office are... to kill people. This administration is good at killing people and really ticking off Americans with their intrusive policies.

Is this the kind of success that we WANT to see in a President? We just ignore ham-handed handling of the economy and foreign relations, all because he is good at killing people we wouldn't mind seeing dead?

If he gets elected on this record, we've set the bar incredibly LOW for "success."

  1. I wouldn't even say the killing of the radical Muslims are enough to say "legacy" around the President. He's a one-item legacy president...with his health-care deal as the only thing to brag about.

I do believe he'll be re-elected in 2012, then meet up with a majority of Republicans in the Senate and House....and find the remaining four years as just a "flat-line".

Historians in fifty years will stand there and try their best to lay out his accomplishments, and explain the Nobel Peace Prize...and mostly max out with 250 words to praise on him and his eight years.
